...While the kids were sledding this afternoon, and after I spent a good part of the day "deep cleaning" from the sparce remains of a wonderful holiday season...I took "time out" for myself. I did this exactly at the moment when the sun was at it's peak, shining so brightly between the shutters in my living room. With a cup of tea and my legs propped on the ottoman, I escaped into the wintery fest of true New England.

It was bitter cold today, and I had every intention of walking...(Honest!) but I just couldn't resist "my time", my sunny living room, my "clean" living room, and catching up with one of my favorite preppy magazines; Yankee Magazine.

Hello my blogger friends....it's been too long!

New England Autumn is moving along fast and furious up here! I am sitting at my desk in my guestroom reviewing my favorite blogs (which are all of you!). Although I like to call it my office, it's my little place and I don't share it! Ha!

It is a typical November day; cloudy, blustery and cold with pockets of a little rain. I find myself staring out my guestroom window looking at my backyard filled with fallen leaves in a beautiful yellow, red, and orange hue. The leaves are rustling about the yard. My rock wall in the far back is partially covered with dying ivy, leaves and some fallen branches from the heavy winds we have had the past few days. I chuckle, because every so often a baseball, softball or soccer ball pops up among the blown leaves. The trees are not quite bare, quietly stating that we have atleast two more attempts of cleanup!! Oh, how they must laugh at our yard service crew and my husband's fixation with his leaf blower!

I am also enjoying my tea! Oh, now, I'm well aware these few moments of bliss will be over, as I have many things to accomplish today. But I'm enjoying the moment! Take 5, smell the roses,
relax, look around you. Sounds oh, so familiar, but do we do this enough?

I'm having a great summer,....which is why I haven't had much time to blog! I thought it would be easier as the kids get older, but nnnnnnoooooo! Any hoo.....we're all having fun, that's most important.

I have been trying to catch up amid the great postings on cooking, vacation spots and Preppy Sue's fabulous ice cream reviews!!!!! The posts are all great! I truly enjoy reading them.

So, here is where I need your help. I'm on a mad hunt for the perfect mascara; black, smudgeproof of course, and one that will make by lashes fuller. They are long so I don't need one to enhance that. I know some of you posted on various kinds over the last few months, but I can't remember who wrote what.

So, I thought it would be easier for me to review responses to my request.
A Sephora is close by to me as other local cosmetic boutiques...also a Nordstrom, L&T, Saks and Niemens and Macy's of course!

One more thing, I'm 40ish....not a yung thang....although I like to think I am, heehee!

U-Pick Strawberries at oldest farm

In honor of the beginning of strawberry season in New England, I thought I would share a little about one of the oldest working farms in the United States; Lookout Farm in Natick, Massachusetts.

Located west of Boston, Minister John Eliot and a group of settlers paddled down the famous Charles River in canoes and made their home along the shores of the river. This group later established the farm in 1650.

Eliot and his community were friendly with the Native Americans who inhabited the area, which was known to them as “the place of the hills.” Today, this “place” is Lookout Farm.

And what a place it is! From strawberries, peaches, pears, to an abundance of apples and pumpkins in the Fall, this is the place for family fun. They have a fabulous garden center, animals for the kids, a burlap maze, and this adorable little train that takes you around the acres and acres of farm land on a hill.

If you live in the area, it's a fabulous day trip for the family. And if you are visiting, be sure to check it out!

Nothing like kicking off the summer this weekend and heading into Boston for a Red Sox baseball game at Fenway Park! Everyone is so excited. My little guy is planning to bring his glove and keep score in the program! That's such a big deal to him!

It's an absloutely gorgeous day today and weather is expected to continue all weekend up here! BBQ's, beach, parade and a Little League baseball game on the schedule this weekend.

Lounging...in Preppy Style

Well here is a great boutique in Connecticut featuring the most preppiest of styles in pajama and casual lounge wear.

The colors and trellis pattern designs are vibrant and so, so pretty. The pant set is adorable and looks so comfy to wear after a long day when you want to settle with a good book and glass of wine in front of the fireplace.

But, what really caught my eye was the good old fashioned "housecoat"!
Yes, remember the ones our grandmothers wore and perhaps our mom's did as well in the

Well isn't January and our New Year resolutions always about cleaning and organizing? After looking at my little guy's bedroom this morning, I deeply sighed. Boys and clean rooms just don't mix. Time to clean out and make room.

So, I just discovered these adorable storage bags in LL Bean's spring introduction. Aren't these great looking storage bins for a mudroom or family room?

These would look perfect in his bedroom next to his bookcase to store the millions of Lego pieces, Lincoln Logs, Matchbox cars etc. Boyish and practical. I'm buyin' them!

Mom....I don't want to be late!

Yes....the above was in my holiday stocking from my children. Neatly and festively wrapped by Miss Preppy/Sporty Tween, of course! But I did wonder if they were trying to tell me something!

Ok, from time to time, we get to practices and lessons in the NICK-OF-TIME, I remind them, never LATE, I boast! For some reason, my children like to arrive early for EVERYTHING. This includes the bus top for my tween, walking ahead of time to school, practices, the movies, etc. They would rather hang and wait for all to come, which of course I need to also, until a coach or scheduled supervising parent arrives. I suppose this is a good sign that they are aware of time management at a young age, (cough) so unlike their Mom.

Well, I have to say this little gem that fits in my tote truly is a wonderful working organizer. I have spent the last few nights going through school paperwork that I tossed aside before the holidays, emails, sports schedules, and other commitments, only to record IN PENCIL, all times. A quirky pet-peeve of mine is having a messy planner in ink or marker with scribble, crossed lines., white out! OMG...you must all be saying. If my panner can't be neat and clear, then it just doesn't work for me. What I have discovered at this age of my children is that often, practices or games are re-sceduled, not once but at times, twice. I constantly check my emails on my phone only to record the changes through out the day, hence why I use a PENCIL!

Ok....Ok....this is so silly, but it works for me and I love my Mom Agenda!

Hello and Happy New Year to all!
I do hope all of you enjoyed the holiday season with your friends and family. It was nice to have the kids home, practices and lessons on hold, no commitments other than FAMILY! We spent much of our time visiting with family and I can't say enough about how nice it was to do that. Many of us are located at a great distance and we are all very good at planning holiday, special occasions and summer visits. Our lives can be overwhelming with commitments, but in reality when we spend quality time with family during the holidays, it really is the true meaning of the season.
It is back to reality with the kids schedule, but that's ok. I feel that I had a good break......for now!
So, I need to get creative with this blog, new ideas, perhaps a new look. Hmmm....maybe a little change for the New Year? We'll see. In the meantime, I look forward to catching up with your blogs.

I've been meaning to post about this Rhode Island company, but when I recently received an email announcing their new earrings, I couldn't resist.

This is a young New England company with a really fun line of small accessories in vintage preppy fabrics. They really do capture the fun, casual, laid back feel of New England preppy. You must browse kieljamespatrick for uniqe fabric knot rope bracelets for your tween or college bound hipster. The headbands are so adorable; a mix of vintage, preppy and Ralph Lauren looking fabrics. My tween has her eye on several.

'Tis the Baking Season-Part 1:Baker's Chocolate!

In the spirit of the "baking" season...and knowing how many of us work so hard to bake the most perfect "Martha Stewart" looking holiday treats, I thought I would dedicate each Friday to a "holiday baking" theme. Perhaps I'll post about a special New England bakery, or traditional New England holiday baked good, a history piece, or perhaps stoneware or baking utensil offered from one of New England's finest...the possibilities are endless so I hope you will enjoy and follow along.

I would like to start with Baker's Chocolate. You know, the cute little box of chocolate squares in sweetened, unsweetened, german and white chocolate that we love to break up for cake or pie recipes, etc. not to mention drizzling over sliced fruit!

Originating from Dorchester, Massachusetts, this is a suburb south of Boston that was very, very rich in Irish working class history as well as the home of many factory mills along the historical Neponset River.

Let's go back to 1760, introducing an Irish immigrant and chocolate maker named John Hannan, who was a sketchy little fellow but a popular whiz at understanding the process of melting cocoa beans in hot water and setting up a "proper mill" thus making sweetened chocolate drinks. Now, these drinks were much like our coffee fix of today!
Impressing many and opening doors for others to venture into the cocoa (chocolate) business became a popular trade and a much needed job during those tumultuous times in Boston. (We can relate to that)! Well, during this time, someone else was paying close attention to Hannan. Realizing his great skill, a wealthy and smart Dr. James Baker, teamed up with Hannan and together they started the first chocolate factory; Baker's Chocolate, outside of Boston, Massachusetts in 1780. Business was great! Baker was the "financial backer" as Hannon was the "creative hand" behind the mill and sales grew forcing them to a larger mill along the Neponset River.

This is where Baker's brother-in-law, Edward Preston, comes into the picture and shakes things up as he is the larger mill's landlord. Plus, he wanted "in" on what he could see was a lucrative chocolate business. He kept quiet and learned alot! As sales continued to grow favorably, they decided to buy an additional mill. Baker and Hannon started quarrelling. Hannon now ran the other chocolate mill which suffered a massive fire. That's enough to make one stressed, and he was very unhappily married. So, one day he up and left telling all he was venturing to the West Indies to buy more cocoa beans. Hannon was never heard from again. Well, surprise surprise, quiet Mr. Preston raked Hannan's share and produced Preston's Chocolate as a major competitor for years to Baker's Chocolate. (Hmph!)

Years later, James Baker, known as "the king of cocoa" stepped down leaving all to his son. It's always the younger generation that takes the family business to new heights! And that's just what Edmund Baker did by purchasing a larger and fancier mill offering more features available during that time!

War of 1812-Not a good time and Edmund Baker's chocolate business was doing very poorly. Luckily, Edmund was another smart one and ventured into other industries to keep that money coming in, because he knew once again, those cocoa beans would be flying off those ships and Boston's finest river would be spilling with chocolate! Soon after the war, Baker's chocolate was in the general stores once again!

Welcome Walter Baker, Edmund's son. Another smart one that successfully ran the business in one of Boston's largest mills at the time and the first to hire two women! But the climate in Boston was harsh in the winter and steamy hot in the summer. So imagine this town full of hard working immigrants working in not the best of conditions in such weather. But business prevailed over time and Baker's Chocolate from Boston, Massachusetts succeeded as the pioneer of chocolate, even with stiff competition from Preston Chocolates!

Baker's Chocolate was eventually purchased By General Foods and after 1965 was manufactured elsewhere outside of New England. The Walter Baker Mill remains as do many of the mills in the Dorchester area and have been refurbished into beautiful town lofts. If you ever happen to be visiting Boston, check out the Lower Mills historic section of Dorchester, Massachusetts. It's a great walking tour.

Interesting fact: an employee named Sam German, developed German's sweet baking chocolate for the Baker Company in 1852. It wasn't until 1957, when a Texas homemaker (a SAHM) sent a cake recipe using Baker's German chocolate to a Dallas newspaper thus resulting in a huge increase in Baker chocolate sales. Today, that most famous cake recipe is German Chocolate Cake!

I'mmm Baaaccck!

So missing the blog thing! Busy ending a fun and productive fall season of soccer with my two children. Miss Preppy Sporty Tween was the team lead scorer...woohoo! Little Soccer guy(baseball guy) did awesome and played for the first time on a state club league this year in addition to his town team. It was far more intense and skill driven, but he did well and, most important, had fun and learned more aout the game.

Well folks...I don't get much of a break as I am heading to the gym now until February. No not to work out...altho I should do that, but to watch the kids play basketball, both claiming this to be their first passion! Eeesshh!

Looking forward to catching up!

A Favorite Cookbook!

I thought I would share with you one of my favorite cookbooks.

This was given to me many years ago by a very close friend when I moved from Boston to Dallas, Texas. That was a very exciting time for me as I accepted a job post with a large advertising agency. Moving to the South, starting a new job in my career path, meeting new people and making new friends was just something I could not say, "no" to! It meant leaving my family and friends here for a while. I also left a good job here that was working out very well for me. So, it was a most trying time to make sure I was making the right decision for myself, and thankfully, that proved to be true! I always knew I would come back to Boston!

The picture posted is in far better condition than my book, as the cover has faded in color, edges are ragged, and torn in one place! Truly the sign of a well-loved and often used cookbook! I don't think it is in circulation any more but check amazon.com

This cookbook is a wonderful collection of recipes from various inns throughout New England, compiled by Sandra J. Taylor. I do use the book frequently as many dishes are a favorite and fairly easy to make. I really enjoyed cooking traditional New England fare for my southern friends!

The recipe that I just made the other day was a true autumn favorite;

Yankee Pot Roast

Longfellow's Wayside Inn

Concord, Massachusetts

1 bottom round roast (4-6 lbs.)

1/2 cup oil

2 celery stalks

2 carrots

1 onion

1 can tomatoes (1 lb.)

2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. pepper

3 cups of water

1/4 cup of flour

1/3 cup of each- cooked peas, cubed carrots, cut string beans

1/2 cooked, chopped celery

In Dutch oven, brown roast in oil with celery stalks, carrots and large slices of onion around meat. Add tomoatoes, salt and pepper and cover with water. Bring to a boil and let simmer over low heat or in oven at 350 for 2 1/2 hours.

Lift out roast, and keep warm. Strain vegetable stock, discarding the vegetables. Skim fat off stock, returning just a 1/4 cup of fat to Dutch oven. Stir the flour into fat in Dutch oven, stirring regulary. Add (what you should now have as 4 cups) of vegetable stock. Cook and stir until thickened. Add the cooked peas, carrots, celery and string beans.

Serve a gravy with the sliced beef.

I served this with a french bread and herb butter.

I hope you try this and do enjoy.

Beacon Hill, Boston

We had a wonderful anniversary weekend despite the rainy weather on Friday and Saturday. We stayed at the liberty hotel which was once the infamous Charles Street Jail. Elements of this historical city jail site dating back to 1851 have been so preserved throughout including old iron bars from the jail cells! Lot's of history here! It's an unbelieveable hotel and a happening place!

A rainy Saturday morning welcomed us but didn't put a damper on taking a morning walk and shopping along the old brick lined sidewalks of Charles Street in Beacon Hill. The neighborhood's brickfaced row houses are just so elegant; some with small flower and herb gardens in the adjacent patios or gorgeous flower boxes under large drape lined windows. We have strolled around here during the holidays and the door decorations are simply stunning. It is a very quiet neighborhood in Boston. I think that is what I like about the area so much. The hustle and bustle is found throughout other great spots in the city. Breakfast at Panificio on Charles Street was the perfect stop on a gloomy morning.

Jersey Boys at Boston's Shubert Theatre was FABULOUS! You must see! So much fun. It's the story of how Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons started out, their struggles, the brains behind their path to success, the meaning behind some songs. Mr. Boston and I truly enjoyed it and would see it again.

We dined at the french restaurant; pigalleboston.com led by head chef Marc Orfaly. Named after the red light district of Paris, I found that to be so ironic as the restaurant is tucked away in Boston's theatre district. Our dinner, presentation, champagne and wine was delightful. Truly a romantic setting!

Sunday out on the town on a glorius day had us starting off again on Charles Street for brunch at beaconhillinnandbistro before heading over to Newbury St. This is an adorble little inn located in the heart of Beacon Hill with a fab french bistro. Took us right back to France!

Le Boston!

We are Boston bound for the weekend celebrating our wedding anniversary of 16 years!!!! When we honeymooned in France, we made a promise that each anniversary would be celebrated with a French theme. We have kept to that promise over the years with dinners at French restaurants, sips at some wine bars, gifts with some french theme, etc. Many establishments we have enjoyed together over the years.

This year, we decided to stay local. School just started on Tuesday and with all of the excitement and jitters, I wasn't to sure how the first week would go. Mom and Dad travelling far on the first week of school seemed a little selfish to me, so we decided for a weekend in Boston.

I can't tell you how excited I am. We always head into town for day trips with the kids. I go in frequently to shop. Mr. Boston works in town. We attend theatre, go out for dinner, meet friends occcasionally and then head home from a nice evening out. This is a little special. We're spending the whole weekend there. Funny thing, I live about 40 minutes away! Hee-hee!!!!!

I'm looking forward to walking and shopping along Charles Street, Newbury Street, maybe a little run along the Charles River. We are going to see Jersey Boys and I can't wait! Dinner at a french restaurant of course! It will be a lovely weekend celebrating and taking me back to hanging out in the city long before we had children. We have so much to be thankful for; patience and kindness towards each other, our love and friendship, our health, happy and beautiful children.

Hello my blogger friends. I have not posted in several days. Enjoyed the last weekend of summer doing a "last hoorah" at the beach and a New England amusement park; www.canobielake.com
A glorious day only a bit chilly for the last of those water rides!!! Labor Day was spent at a family cookout.

School started yesterday and was a morning full of jitters and excitement. My Miss Preppy/Sporty Tween started middle school, rode a school bus for the first time, and wore her first Converse pair of sneakers!!! Big day for her. She came home smiling and talking non-stop about her new locker, schedule, lunch and the latest with each of her friends. Non stop until bed-time. I loved every minute of it!!!

My little baseball guy was excited to walk with his friends, get a routine back in his life and start school. Boys need so much STRUCTURE! He, too, came home smiling but was ready to play baseball in the yard with his friends before I got any scoop. I had to wait until dinner time!

I miss them. I like hanging out with them. I like being spontaneous and deciding at breakfast what we wanted to do that summer day. I liked their crazy hectic sport schedule. I liked playing basktball in the driveway. I liked playing baseball in the backyard. Going to the beach meeting up with friends was fun. Bikeriding around town together and on Cape Cod was always an adventure. Our day trips into Boston were always nice. Family visits up to New Hampshire was always fun. Summer swimming in the pool, lake and ocean was a blast! Our Maine vacation was terrific. Most important, having downtime and fun together as a family and with friends was the best!

Lake swimming!

A mad rush to blog before I get everything together and relax for the evening for my fav; Mad Men!

A fun time in NH visiting family this past week with golf and swimming as our source of fun! Here is a picture of Lake Horace in New Hampshire. This is a small little lake not far north in NH at all. A great little lake for boating, kayaking, swimming and fishing. We live on the coast and swim in the ocean and pools so lake water is a refreshing experience.

Penabscot Bay

Just downloaded some of my pictures and so far very pleased! Remember how I said I wasn't too savvy with pictures and blogging? I just need to learn how to post picture with copy underneath! I'll get there bloggers, I will!

We took a boat out in the Bay around the many little islands in the region, some with very, very, very, private and expensive resort homes, as well those home to moose only!!!!!! It was a beautiful day and lovely scenery! Above is Breakwater Lighthouse that we could walk to everyday from the resort. I was happy to get this view in the water from the other side! And this is Owl's Head Lighthouse on Owl's Head Island. The kids enjoyed climbing this one.

I'm off to New Hampshire for a few days visiting and may not be posting. I hope to add more pictures later. Enjoy the week!

Samoset Golf Resort, Maine

This is where we stayed. Samoset Resort is located on the water in the Penobscot Bay region which is located in the Camden-Rockport area of Maine.

Although we didn't experience the usual late summer, balmy, upper New England weather, it was still a fabulously hot, hot, hot, week. Temperature and humidity not seen in the area in years! Well, how lucky for us as we enjoyed swimming in this pool and the poolside service offering us frozen drinks while listening to some very "fab" music, and taking in this gorgeous view! Relaxing, indeed, is all one can do when you have a view like that from your lounge chair!

Our room had beautiful views with a large deck overlooking the golf course as well. Mr. Boston did his golf time and we also went out as a family late in the day a few times. This place is truly a golfer's paradise. The deep blue color against the greens was breathtaking! Ok, so I didn't golf as well as I would have liked. I'll just blame it on being distracted from my surroundings! (hah!) My little baseball guy was driving farther than me on a few holes! What?!!!! I just couldn't pay attention!

This well-known resort dates back to the late 18oo's and was sold to the Poland Spring owners. It soon became the premiere coastal resort in Maine. Fact: it was renamed "Samoset" after the Native Indian; Pemaquid Chief, one of the first to greet the first Pilgrims off the Mayflower. Over the years, ownership passed frquently and in time the "grand" became old and unkept. It was destroyed in a fire in 1970 only to be rebuilt later and in time with an 18 hole championship golf course. The lobby of the hotel displayed beautiful old photographs of vacationers from the 1800's. Women in long skirts with big straw hats and men in suits paraded the grounds, played croquet and enjoyed the same breathtaking views as we did last week! That gave me the goosebumps!

We truly enjoyed our time at this resort. More to come about our adventures in the area.

I think it is going to be a scorcher weather-wise. We plan to golf, bike ride, swim, and lot's of other fun things!

A Good Part of My Summer-Part 2!

My Miss Preppy/Sporty Tween tried a Summer Softball Travel league for the first time. She had such fun learning the game, becoming stronger, sharing laughs and silly times with friends. Competitive, yes. Did they do well? Heck no! Did they care? Well, yes, because the girls' tried and gave it their all, but in the end, it was all about putting on a uniform, getting out there with friends and just playing a summer-time game and having a good time! I am so proud she did this and kept it all in stride.

Now basketball is a different story for her. This is her passion. Practicing in the driveway with her Dad, and participating in summer camps was a highlight this summer. She loves it. Watching her dribble and do lay-ups in the driveway every day is a fav past-time for me. I marvel at her ability and determination.

I love how girl's have so many sporting opportunities today; from simple programs offered through town recreation dept.'s to organized clinics. It encourages the girls to become more confident in themselves, have better eating habits and organizational skills, better self esteem and have fun sharing a sport with their friends.

Miss Preppy/Sporty Tween also loves the piano. No, a Lilly pink piano just won't work in our home!! (hee-hee!). Begging her to practice, I never have. This is a creative outlet. She truly enjoys playing every day and expresses that to us. Neither myself or Mr. Boston are musically inclined, so when we started her with lessons, it was assumed to be short-lived. Surprise, surprise. And...well now it has reached a different level of instruction (and of course, a more costly one!). Oh well, we just can't refuse musical instruction if there is great interest, and so we just have to do without some other wants!

So there you have it, softball practice and games, basketball camp and weekly piano lessons for Miss Preppy/Sporty Tween's summer.

Part 3 to be posted shortly, but I'm getting ready for next week's vacation in Maine.

A Good Part of My Summer!-Part 1

I realized I haven't posted much about my family on my blog which truly was not intentional. I have so enjoyed blogging about the fun, preppy items I have or fun items I have discovered, but I also wanted to use this blog to share some of my family's adventures. So, I decided I need to mix this blog up a bit! A little variety, flexibility.....you know!

So why not start with the activities that have consumed most of my summer (part 1)! No, not the Boston Red Sox, but my little baseball guy's Summer Travel Baseball season. Due to the rainy weather early on, games and practices had been cancelled, rescheduled, cancelled and rescheduled again. Crazy, crazy times! I soon became this Mother pulling by little baseball guy early from the beach or play only to say, "you need to rest before the game"! What?!!!
Very light meals were prepared "before the game"and "after the game" soon became sub and pizza nights! What?!!! Big wins or good games became rewarded with ice cream! What?!!! I couldn't treat my little little guy to ice cream just because the team lost?....Just kidding!

I really have to say, despite all the running around, schedule changes, carpooling, not the best of meals on game days, my little guy's passion for baseball is precious to me! I will always cherish the memories of watching him out the window while he was deep in thought of "pretending" to be a major league baseball player in our back yard. Watching him practice swinging with the bat and checking out his muscles is priceless, watching him throw balls in the air to catch or run and dive and roll in the grass throwing his arm up with the ball inside the glove and the biggest smile on his face is priceless, hearing him talk to himself calling out as if he was an umpire is priceless. Many times I joined him, batting the ball so he could run and catch, or go for grounders. Hmph! I must have been pretty good because he would ask me to play! Many days, a friend would come to play and they would practice. Mr. Boston would take him to the town field and batting cages to practice.

The games were exciting and fun as well as heartbreaking at times. These little boys tried so hard. They were very good, some better than others, but they held it together as a team, did well and had fun. My little baseball guy learned a lot; from his Dad, his coaches, his teammates.
Oh who knows, maybe he learned something from me throughout all of this too! I need just a smidgen of credit since I did all the driving!!!!!

But most important, my little baseball guy was laughing in that dugout, goofing with his buddies but "no nonsense" out in that field! My little baseball guy was helpful and responsible; making sure his uniform was always ready, making sure his bat bag was together and he had enough water! He was always ready to go to practice or a game, never complaining, never tiring of baseball. The season ended with a loss to the #1 team in the league in playoffs.
That's ok, my baseball guy's season ended as a better player, a smarter player, a happy player to have shared this with his family, a player who wants to come back to the field next summer...ready!

We had a wonderful Father's Day breakfast at our favorite spot in the town harbor.

Much discussion if we should keep our family plan to golf for the day. The cold, wet, misty rain and increasing wind drove our decision to cancel our scheduled tee time. Wouldn't be fun! Plan "B" brought us to a few crazy games of bowling! A space for Reflecting.....

I'm writing today in a somber mood. I have spent most of my day in a special place that brings peace to me. I lost someone very dear and beloved. I still hurt. I still grieve. I still miss that person. Today is the 1st anniversary. My family has been wonderful to me throughout this. They have been there for me. My special place started with church this morning. Peaceful.
Prayer is consoling. Next, I spent a good part of the day at a spot near the beach with a beautiful view. I wrote down thoughts in a journal. I wrote some notes to a few special people in my life. But most important, I was in deep thought about this person, who was so special to me. This person is at peace and looking down on me lovingly. I know that. I can feel that. Today was my day to stop, take a breath and just think. I hope you all have a special place for reflecting.

As I read so many different blogs, I discovered I'm also reading about you; your good humor, creativity, sense of style and uncanny skill to hunt for those fabulous preppy finds! Well, I should only repay the kindness and present a little preppiness about myself to you!

I'm a preppy 40ish SAHM to two; Miss Preppy/Sporty Tween and Mr. Baseball Guy (for now, until next sport season) and married to the fab, sometimes preppy, Mr. Boston! I love the crazy life I'm in right now juggling their school life, my school volunteering (just two more days!) , their sports, music and theatre interests in true preppy style of course; navy, kelly, pink, and madras.

I love my children's friends, and their play time together! In between that, I manage to happily jaunt off to my manicure and pedicure appointments for that fab massage chair....(ahhh!!!)

As for me and Mr. Boston, we love great conversation over dinner together or with friends locally or in Boston. We have fun playing golf together..(well I think he does!) we enjoy the theatre, and spending time with our children. Watching baseball and rooting for the Red Sox is a huge summer past-time with the occasional treat to attend Fenway Park! We love our family beach time during the day and early evening wind downs with other families. Nothing like summer drinks and fun appetizers at the beach watching the sun set! We love our evenings on the deck watching the children play! Mr. Boston likes to cook and yes, I'll admit, sometimes, he is better than me...(gasp!!!!) We love to do day trips, and plan vacations visiting family or new places.
My little ones are well, not so little anymore. (...sigh...)So many blog sites dedicated to that stage and I truly miss that. I'm now in the middle of the "tween scene" with my oldest. Challenging yes, but fun! My youngest is my little baseball guy!
We love New England and I hope to share some great things about this beautiful place with all of you. Thank you for reading and thank you to those who started following me. It's so much fun to click on "Followers" to discover someone new and from what area they are writing from!

June is officially strawberry season throughout New England! I love this time of year with the abundance of fruit! I have gone to local u-pick farms with my children and we enjoyed making one of our family favorites; a good old fashioned strawberry shortcake!
Check your local area to see where the best "pickins" are, pack a picnic and enjoy the afternoon.

Fact: the early Pilgrim settlers in Massachusetts loved eating the strawberries grown by the local Native Americans. They were cultivating strawberries as early as 1643!

No, I didn't bake any cupcakes this weekend, or purchase any from my local bakery. However, I did enjoy a cupcake or two..............

this cupcake.....Cupcake wine from Cupcake Vineyards. How adorable is that? It's an inexpensive wine priced around $15 a bottle for a Chardonnay, Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon.

After a long Saturday filled with soccer and baseball games, plus the usual runs in between games, I was wiped out at the end of the day. After dinner and all were relaxed, Mr. Boston presented me with this bottle.

Reason: to celebrate the launching of my very first blog and successful first weeks of postings! Ohh, how sweet!

Mr. Boston had stopped in our local wine shop, saw this and thought, "How CUTE. This might be a good post." I kid you not, he actually said that to me.

Well, how CUTE was HE! ....Looks like the label was a pure selling feature. It's a great whimsical, girlie design. Mr. Boston did good!

We enjoyed the Cabernet. Perhaps next time, we'll have cupcakes and wine!

In the meantime, I think this would be a hit at Book Club or Mom's Night. - Cheers!

I've been reading that some of you are heading to the Vineyard or Nantucket this Summer or perhaps heading to another beautiful seacoast. Many of you, including myself, simply love the beach life. Our Spring weather in New England has been cool and rainy, but this weekend was absolutely beautiful! It was so nice to enjoy a Saturday welcoming warm sunshine during an afternoon filled with soccer games instead of standing on the field under an umbrella! The day ended with a nice grilled dinner and an outdoor fire on our deck.

Today, I headed into Boston and met two of my very dear college friends. We enjoyed a wonderful Sunday brunch, complimented with a few mimosas outside on the patio at Stephanies on Newbury. This is a great place located in Boston's Back Bay section. If you are coming in town for the day or visiting Boston over the summer, the patio at Stephanies is a "must" in order to enjoy "people watching" for a variety of great style and fashion. And, of course, it wouldn't be a fullfilling day in the city if we didn't do a little boutique shopping!

Fun gift for someone in this area, or who may no longer live here but would appreciate a cute reminder, or perhaps even a puzzle junkie might like one! Tour de New England!

Well, since I just started posting yesterday, I am a few weeks late annnouncing my fab Mother's Day present from my Crew, compliments of one of New England's finest; LL Bean! Love it!

This bike is sooo comfortable and easy to switch gears for those sneaky gradual hills! The width of the handlebars and seat height position enable me to ride more comfortably. Perhaps it is the (correct?) position that I'm sitting making it easier for me. I spent Memorial Day cruising right along with my family!

You see, all these years I have been riding the same bike that I purchased long ago with curved handle bars and racing tires. At that time, I biked alot while living in the South, and was in far better shape than I am now. (...Sigh! Oh the joys of motherhood!...) So, trying to keep up with my family, hunched over a bike, huffing and puffing up those hills took the damper out of our "supposed to be " fun family outings. Perhaps my crankiness encouraged a few "lightbulb over the head" moments for the Crew as they set off on a mission to find Mom a new bike. Indeed they did!

Needless to say this Memorial Day, we enjoyed a family bike ride throughout our town and a fun lunch outside on the restaurant deck overlooking our town harbor!

I hope to post some good family bike trails in the future!

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the blogging scene and I'm so excited to join all of you in the quest for continued preppiness! .....(applause, applause)

First, let me start by saying how much I have read so many of your fun blogs over the months and so enjoyed your humor and wit, creative inspirations, thoughtful expressions and yes, fabulous preppy bargains and finds. Well done!

Second, while I am new at this adventure, I hope you bear with me as I carefully navigate through the world of blogging terms, do's and don'ts, as well as short-cuts. I'm sure I will be screaming for help!

Third, my goal is to focus my blog on New England. Not sure if I can keep up with this daily, but I hope to share my unique finds of New England preppiness with all of you. I live in a coastal New England town. I love the hectic, crazy pace I keep with my family as we venture in school events, sports, creatve activities, day-trips, and anything else we think is fun to do!
